US Launch

Today's newsletter is brief, mostly because Ghosts of the Orphanage was just launched in the US! Right now I am in Vermont doing radio, meeting people, marvelling at the thick white ice hanging off rock walls by the highway, and giving a talk at Phoenix Books Wednesday evening. The daily highs have hovered around 1-4C, which means the locals have donned their light jackets, while I am wearing a sleeping bag. As I sat in a radio booth yesterday listening to the show’s intro, a reporter cautioned locals about unusually frisky bear activity. Later over coffee, new friends regaled me with a rabid racoon update. The above is a true and accurate picture of me looking for my car in the hotel parking lot.

There's a lot of great media to catch up on, which I'll post over the next few weeks. Most enjoyably, book promotion involves so much more audio than it did in 2014, 2015, when The Invisible History of the Human Race was released. It makes for a much more personal, even intimate, connection with interviewers and readers. I include some highlights here, and I'll post catch ups over the next few weeks.

History Nerds United

One of my absolute favorite podcasts so far. Brendan Dowd, full-time government consultant, West Point graduate, former Iraq tank platoon leader, and big podcast nerd, asked great questions. Listen here.

Thank you for reading Unnatural History. This post is public so feel free to share it.

Vermont Public Radio

It's always an honor to get an NPR slot but even better for Ghosts of the Orphanage to be featured in Vermont Edition with the very thoughtful and talented Mikaela Lefrak. This program was emotional because it included callers who wanted to share thoughts and experiences about the story. Listen here.

Minneapolis Star Tribune

This may be one of the best reviews I've had in my life. It's always incredible when you feel like the reviewer, another journalist, gets it. Read it here.
